15-Year-Old Donates Hair to Create Wigs for Children with Hairloss

Article posted on July 31st, 2007 in Hair Systems | 2,402 Views | Leave a Comment

DETROIT — Sophomore Jill Gulick of Grosse Pointe Park is donating her lush, blond, long hair so another child will have hair to cover her/his head.

Through the Wigs 4 Kids program, headquartered in St. Clair Shores, hair donations provide Michigan children dealing with the side effect of cancer, alopecia or other medical conditions, wigs at no cost.

It takes a blending of 10 to 12 ponytails to make each wig and the retail value of these wigs range from $1,500 to $3,000.

Says Wigs 4 Kids founder and CEO Maggie Varney:

“Most people do not realize the difference they can make in the life of a young person.  Hair donors have the power to give not only their hair, but the gift of self-esteem to a child dealing with hair loss.”

Jill had to wait patiently for her hair to be at least 10 inches long before she could donate it to the organization.

“I talked it over with my Mom and Dad and both thought it was a good idea,” said Jill. “I don’t want it too short, but I know it will grow back.”

Wigs 4 Kids is a 501-c-3 nonprofit organization providing custom -fitted age appropriate wigs to children and teens through age 17, both male and female, in the state of Michigan. Wigs 4 Kids is committed to serving the community and promoting healthy living, growth and balance. It is funded solely on the basis of contributions.

Article posted on April 23rd, 2007 in Hair Systems, Womens Hairloss | 5,176 Views | Leave a Comment

West Bridgewater, MA (PRWEB) — WigShop.com, the online wig store, is encouraging its customers to lend support to women dealing with the trauma of medical hair loss by donating new or gently used adult wigs.

The program has been launched to connect women at medical and cancer centers with fashionable and useful products. Four organizations, from West Virginia to California, are accepting donations of wigs to distribute to women dealing with the trauma of medical hair loss. Special discounts on wigs are also being offered by WigShop.com to encourage women to participate in the donation program.

“We are so pleased to announce a partnership with three outstanding organizations that will accept donations of wigs and distribute the products to women who can use them due to medical hair loss or any other issues that causes stress related hair loss in a women’s life,” said S J Moore of WigShop.com.

Organizations currently participating in the wig donation program include the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara Brooke, Miles Perret Cancer Services in Lafayette, Louisiana, Army Medical Center in Houston, Texas, and the Veterans of Foriegn Wars Women’s Auxiliary in West Virginia. They are accepting gently used and cleansed fashionable wigs to distribute.

In America, it is estimated that the number of new cancer cases is estimated to be around 1.4 million people.

“Our patients come in daily to the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara and because of the WigShop.com donations, they are pleased to see there are wigs available here for them,” said R. Campuzano.

Could this be real?  No of course not, it’s just a joke.   But it’s a very well done spoof on hair loss commercials.

Hair system wearers beware, you could be under surveillance

Article posted on April 4th, 2007 in Hair Systems | 2,453 Views | Leave a Comment

Picture the scene.  You’re a client of a well known Hair Club, you signed a contract for services to have your hair system cleaned, repaired and styled on a regular basis.

One day your stylist tells you she can offer you a better deal and save you money at a new salon that she will soon be working at.   You naturally jump at the chance to save some money and start visiting her at the new salon.

Fast forward to a few months later and you are now under surveillance by detectives hired by the Hair Club you had a contract with.

If this scenario sounds bizarre and implausible it’s actually based on a true story.

According to the Smoking Gun website, “The Hair Club for Men recently hired a private detective to videotape ex-clients as they entered a rival follicle replacement business staffed by two of its former workers.”

According to a breach of contract lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Sacramento, Hair Club for Men alleges that two of their stylists violated the terms of non-compete agreements they had signed upon being hired by the company.

To support its claim against the stylists, Hair Club hired Frasco Investigative Services to stake out the offices of Elite Solutions Hair Alternatives, their business rival who is now employing their former stylists.

Private detective Michael Selby videotaped four of the former Hair Club clients entering Elite and also shot footage of their former stylists at the competitor’s premises. The surveillance images of the four men visiting the salon were included in the recent court filing by Hair Club.

Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.
