Dallas to Host Hair Art Show

Article posted on June 28th, 2007 in Weird Hair News | 922 Views | Leave a Comment

DALLAS, /PRNewswire/ — On July 22, Shops & Salons Network will host The World’s Largest Hair Art and Fashion Show, at Reunion Arena. This event will introduce a new hair styling technique and trend called Hair Art, which is the art of cutting or shaving symbols and other images into hair. The rising popularity of Hair Art has attracted the Guinness World Records, which will be on site judging a competition for The Fastest Hair Art Hair Cut.

Companies large and small are beginning to use Hair Art to advertise their brands by shaving their logos into men’s and women’s hair, thus transforming them into walking, talking billboards. Mr. Ronnie Mac (Mr. Mac), producer of the event and owner of Shops and Salons NETWORK, is the leading practitioner of Hair Art and has coined the term “Company Cuts.” Interested companies have included Pepsi, Ford, Dairy Queen, FedEx, Albertson’s, and Nike to name a few. As a leader in the new trend, The World’s Largest Hair Art and Fashion Show will officially debut this trend in Dallas to expand local industry awareness and commercial adoption.

Producers are expecting a sellout crowd of 13 thousand to attend the show. Admission tickets range from $10 - $50. The show is open to the public. Mr. Mac and his production company have planned an exciting event:

- Approximately 50 local barbers and beauticians will showcase Hair Art advertising styles.
- Individual hair stylists will compete for a $10k prize for The Best Company Hair Art Cut.
- Guinness World Records will issue an award for The Fastest Hair Art Hair Cut
- Mr. Mac and his team of hair artists will demonstrate Hair Art design and cutting.
- Producer will give away a Ford F-150 truck

Consulting a lawyer can make you lose your hair

Article posted on May 31st, 2007 in Weird Hair News | 929 Views | Leave a Comment

In a bizarre incident in Lucknow, India, a group of lawyers tied a youth to a tree, shaved part of his head, spat in his face and assaulted him for more than an hour.

Vinod, the 22 year-old victim, was allegedly invited to a local court to discuss a marriage that had been arranged for him.

When Vinod reached the court for his appointment, Ravindra Singh, the lawyer-relative, allegedly overpowered him with the help of some associates who are believed to be lawyers as well.

TV channels showed the lawyers tearing off the man’s shirt, tying him to a tree trunk and cutting bald patches into his hair. The 22-year-old victim was then beaten up.

According to police, Vinod was “punished” for not agreeing to marry a girl his lawyer-relative had suggested.  Vinod evidently was not yet ready for marriage and this is what appeared to have sparked the confrontation.

Local official K. Chandramauli said he ordered police to file a case against the lawyers. The Agra Bar Association said it was investigating the attack.

Lucknow is the capital city of the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. It has a population of over 2 million and it is the second largest urban centre in Uttar Pradesh after Kanpur.

Why not choose to lose your hair on Bald Head Island

Article posted on May 15th, 2007 in Weird Hair News | 1,043 Views | Leave a Comment

Feel like an outcast?   Want to get away from it all?   How about a nice remote island vacation where you can forget about your hair loss?  That might be difficult if you happen to choose Bald Head Island as your vacation spot. That’s right, there really is such a place.

The southernmost of North Carolina’s cape islands, Bald Head Island is located at the confluence of the Cape Fear River and Atlantic Ocean.  This picturesque island offers 14 miles of unspoiled coastline, nearly 200 acres of maritime forest and the legendary Cape Fear.

There no cars allowed on the island and it has to be reached by a 20-minute passenger ferry ride from Southport, N.C., a distance of two nautical miles.

Since 1983, ownership, development and stewardship of the island has been entrusted to Bald Head Island Limited, owned by the George P. Mitchell Family.  Judging by their family picture I have a sneaky suspicion how they came up with the name.

The developers of Bald Head Island have taken careful steps to protect this natural and unspoiled island.  Of the island’s total 12,000 acres, 10,000 acres are dedicated nature preserves—forever protected in their natural states.

For people who are looking to get away from it all, Bald Head Island is a remarkable place with homes set in and around ocean beach, river beach, a picturesque harbor, a vast marsh, a championship golf course and a maritime forest.

If you’re interested in seeing the sites of the island visit their website: http://www.baldheadisland.com/

Balding prisoner demands Propecia in prison

Article posted on May 5th, 2007 in Weird Hair News | 1,825 Views | Leave a Comment

Being in prison is no fun, but going bald in prison must really be hell.   That’s what prompted a prisoner in the UK to write a letter to the prison newspaper ”Inside Time” asking why he could not get the anti-hair loss drug Propecia in prison.

The prisoner, who was not named, wrote: “Can Inside Time tell me why Propecia would not appear to be available to prisoners through healthcare, as it is certainly available under the NHS.”

The newspaper submitted his question to Fiona Pearson of the UK’s Prison Service’s health service for an answer.

Her reply to the balding prisoner’s question was, “Propecia is only available on private prescription from GPs (general practitioners) in England, following a Department of Health consultation in 2000.”

Hopefully the doctors in England make jail calls.

Western-style hair cuts are now banned in Iran

Article posted on April 29th, 2007 in Weird Hair News | 1,335 Views | Leave a Comment

The Iranian media is reporting that Iranian police are warning barbers against offering Western-style hair cuts or plucking the eyebrows of their male customers.

“Western hairstyles … have been banned,” the newspaper Etemad said in a front-page headline.

According to CNN, Iranian young men have in recent years started paying more attention to the way they look and dress, especially in affluent parts of the capital Tehran. Spiked up hair, by using gel, is known as the Khorusi (Rooster) style and some also use make-up.

Several hairdressers for men in Tehran reportedly offer hair cuts in the style of Hollywood movie stars and other Western celebrities. Clients can also have their eyebrows plucked.

These activities are now deemed un-Islamic and barbers who do not comply with the banning order might be closed down for a month and could even lose their permits to operate.

Men who get caught violating the law can receive lashes, fines and even imprisonment.

It’s unknown whether comb-overs are banned too, but it’s unlikely since they go back to the days of Julius Caesar.   One thing is for sure, Sanjaya better stay well clear of Tehran if he ever decides to go on an international concert tour.
