A balding bank clerk in Hong Kong is in police custody after getting caught stealing $43,000 from a client’s dormant bank account.

According to court testimony, Alex Chan (32) stole the money to pay for hair loss treatments because he was “terrified of going bald”.

You might want to know why a man would need to steal money to pay for his hair loss treatments instead of just using his own money.   Well the answer is that Alex had already racked up debts of more than $16,000 on anti-balding treatments.

Chan’s fear of going bald apparently drove him to steal money from the dormant bank account at DBS, the bank where he worked.   He had intended to use the stolen money to pay off his previous debt and to buy more hair loss treatments.

His defense lawyer David Boyton told Hong Kong’s Eastern Court that Chan committed the crime out of “vanity, not greed,” and appealed for him to be spared a lengthy jail term.

Chan, who has since paid back all the money he stole, was remanded in custody until May 17 when he is scheduled to be sentenced, Thursday’s South China Morning Post reported.

The magistrate, William Ng, has requested that a psychological report on Chan’s fear of hair loss be prepared before he decides how to punish him.

LOS ANGELES – Halle Berry is going to be completely bald soon.

Fortunately for Berry it’s not from a disease or because she suffers from Androgenetic Alopecia.  Halle Berry will be shaving her locks for a new movie that could start shooting as soon as this summer.

In a press conference held last Wednesday in Los Angeles Berry said, “I’m going to shave my head bald. I can’t believe it”.

Berry will shed her hair for a new romantic comedy which is currently titled “Nappily Ever After.”

Halle plays a woman whose hair is starting to fall out and then decides to shave it all off. Afterwards she has to deal with people’s perceptions of who she is and how her hair defined her.

Berry said her character “is forced to look at what beauty is, and it comes from inside.”

What Berry will be pretending to feel is what millions of hair loss sufferers have to experience for real every day.

Halle’s plan is to shave her real hair on film and not to fake it by wearing a bald cap.

Unfortunately it will be more than a year before moviegoers will be able to see her go bald because a new script draft of “Nappily Ever After” was only recently completed.

This weekend’s WrestleMania 23 will have millions of viewers watching as one of two billionaires have their heads shaved on national TV.

Dubbed the “Battle of the Billionaires”, Donald Trump and WWE Chairman Vince McMahon signed on the dotted line on March 13 agreeing to the highly anticipated “Hair vs. Hair” match at WrestleMania 23. 

Each billionaire has a wrestler who will represent them in the match and the losing billionaire will lose his locks if his wrestler loses the match.  Donald Trump’s designated wrestler is ECW World Champion Bobby Lashley, and Vince McMahon’s designated wrestler is “The Samoan Bulldozer” Umaga.

If Lashley wins, Trump will shave off McMahon’s hair, but if Umaga wins, Trump will have his hair shaved off live in front of a worldwide pay-per-view audience and more than 75,000 fans at Ford Field in Detroit.

At first Trump, 60, was hesitant to participate. He said the 61-year-old McMahon persuaded him by making a “sizable” donation to charity. Both Trump and McMahon will donate their checks, an amount McMahon said should exceed $5 million. WrestleMania 23 already has topped $5 million in ticket sales, making it the highest grossing one-day live event in WWE history.

Stone Cold Steve Austin will police the “Battle of the Billionaires” as the special guest referee.

WrestleMania 23 will be broadcast on pay-per-view TV on Sunday, April 1, 2007 at 7 EST / 4 PST.

Combover: the movie is coming to a TV screen near you.   Directors Chris Marino and Tim Fenoglio’s documentary, which takes a light-hearted look at this ancient, yet ineffective method of covering up baldness, now has worldwide distribution.

Their documentary is expected to air on various channels worldwide in 2007 including The Sundance Channel, HBO Latin America (26 countries), XYZ Australia, Fox Europe, Yes TV Israel, Zonevision in the UK.

Shot over 16 months in locations throughout the United States, Combover: the Movie is a documentary that peers into the fascinating world of a classic yet heavily criticized hairstyle: the combover.  This film is about more than just a method for disguising male pattern baldness, it’s a humorous chronicling of one man’s fascination with the combover. The cameras followed Chris Marino as he surveyed the country searching for answers and for “extreme combovers.” 
   
As part of the exploration, Chris interviewed various hair loss experts: hair transplant physicians, hair practitioners, even a gentleman who obtained a U.S. patent for the comb-over. In addition the documentary looks into the significance of this hairdo in historical, cultural and religious contexts. One of the oldest references to hair’s importance is in the Old Testament. Elisha, friend of Elijah, was enraged when a youth referred to him as a “bald head.”

One can’t help wonder if perhaps the comb over is worn in response to social pressure to have a full head of hair.

An Australian baggage courier has been jailed by a Melbourne judge for at least two years for stealing women’s hair from their suitcases.

Rodney Lyle Petersen, 30, of Wallan, pleaded guilty to 50 counts of theft of women’s hair that he collected from the baggage of Qantas passengers.

Petersen would apparently pull over in his courier van and rummage through the lost or delayed luggage that he was returning to Qantas passengers.

He collected the pubic and head hair from brushes and underwear in the suitcases, put them in plastic covers, and recorded the owner’s personal details in a note book.

Petersen had a previous suspended prison term after an attempted rape conviction in 2004. The thefts began three days before he began his weekly attendance at a court-ordered sex offenders program and ended just 10 days before he finished the treatment. 

The court heard that Petersen was driven by a range of deviant desires including sexual sadism, fetishism, and frotteurism - an unusual condition in which sexual satisfaction is gained by actual or fantasised rubbing up against another person.

Petersen told doctors he knew what he was doing was wrong but his collection made him feel “in some way close to the women”.

The judge sentenced him to a maximum of two years and eight months, with a minimum parole period of two years, for the theft charges as well as previous convictions for assault with attempt to rape, recklessly causing injury and robbery.

He has also been included on the sex offenders register, requiring him to report to the authorities for the rest of his life.

At last night’s 79th Annual Academy Awards ceremony in Hollywood, the who’s who of Hollywood gathered to celebrate and award great achievements in film.

We at the Hair Loss News blog however were not interested in which actor won for the best lead in a movie.   Our interest was a little shallower than that, we wanted to see which balding actor had the best hair style and who had the worst.

After much deliberation by our panel we have voted on the following:

Best Balding Male Hairstyle: Jack Nicholson

Jack looked sleek and stylish with his new clean shaven look.  Jack apparently shaved his head for a new movie he is working on.  According the industry buzz he’s playing a cancer patient in a Rob Reiner movie called “The Bucket List”.  Its a comedy/drama about two terminally ill men who flee a cancer ward to complete a list of things they want to do before they die. The movie is scheduled for release in November. 

Worst Balding Male Hairstyle: John Travolta

Come on John, who do you think you are fooling?   We’ve seen too many pictures of you in the tabloids to know what your real hair looks like.   Either shave it all off like Bruce Willis, or get a transplant, those things may work for the movies but when you’re off set you should just take it off.

Are Donald Trump and Britney Spears planning on becoming Hollywood’s new power couple?

No sooner had Britney’s hairs settled on the salon floor an announcement came from Donald Trump that he will shave off all his hair if he loses a bet with WWE’s Vince McMahon.

In a match being called the “Battle of the Billionaires”, Trump will take on World Wrestling Entertainment owner Vince McMahon at Wrestlemania 23 on April 1 in a bet over who will win a wrestling match.

Unfortunately for Rosie fans the Donald himself will not be competing in the ring, rather he and McMahon will each pick a wrestler to represent them in the ring and the loser will get his head shaved after the match.

We couldn’t wait for the outcome so we decided to see what Donald and Britney would look like as Hollywood’s newest “power couple”.
