Fake eyelashes have been around for generations, but for many women it takes a lot of time and effort to apply and remove them. Women wanted a permanent solution and some hair transplant doctors have been happy to oblige.
Dr Alan Bauman, a Florida physician specializing in hair restoration, performs permanent eyelash transplant procedure on mostly female patients. He takes hair follicles from the back of the scalp and attaches them to the eyelash. The result is a permanent solution to a problem facing many women with thin or sparse eyelashes.
While its not cheap at $3,000-per-eye, it’s a permanent solution and unlike false lashes, these won’t fall off. Dr Bauman says that eyelash transplants are on the rise and that his surgical schedule has tripled from a year ago. In the past three months, he has received more than 100 inquiries about the procedure.
The number of follicles transplanted per eyelid may vary depending on ethnicity, but on average it’s about 35 to 50 according to Dr Bauman.
