Can your diet help you keep your hair?

Eating healthy is not just better for your overall health; it’s good for your hair too.   Although androgenetic alopecia (male pattern hair loss) isn’t caused by a poor diet, it’s certainly possible for a poor diet to exacerbate the problem.

In some situations however, a deficient diet can indeed be responsible for hair loss.   A diet that’s lacking in certain nutrients like protein can cause a type of temporary hair loss.   This is what happened to Elisabeth Hasselbeck when she was on Survivor because her diet was deficient in protein.

For anyone suffering from poor hair texture a change of diet may indeed make a big difference.   In this article, registered dietitian Carolyn O’Neil explains the importance of eating right and what foods are good for your hair.
