Why not choose to lose your hair on Bald Head Island

Feel like an outcast?   Want to get away from it all?   How about a nice remote island vacation where you can forget about your hair loss?  That might be difficult if you happen to choose Bald Head Island as your vacation spot. That’s right, there really is such a place.

The southernmost of North Carolina’s cape islands, Bald Head Island is located at the confluence of the Cape Fear River and Atlantic Ocean.  This picturesque island offers 14 miles of unspoiled coastline, nearly 200 acres of maritime forest and the legendary Cape Fear.

There no cars allowed on the island and it has to be reached by a 20-minute passenger ferry ride from Southport, N.C., a distance of two nautical miles.

Since 1983, ownership, development and stewardship of the island has been entrusted to Bald Head Island Limited, owned by the George P. Mitchell Family.  Judging by their family picture I have a sneaky suspicion how they came up with the name.

The developers of Bald Head Island have taken careful steps to protect this natural and unspoiled island.  Of the island’s total 12,000 acres, 10,000 acres are dedicated nature preserves—forever protected in their natural states.

For people who are looking to get away from it all, Bald Head Island is a remarkable place with homes set in and around ocean beach, river beach, a picturesque harbor, a vast marsh, a championship golf course and a maritime forest.
